Take something you like a lot. Something that has ideas, as hamfisted and weird as they are, but they’re there nonetheless. It’s interesting, it’s fun, it’s insane, it’s a lot of the things you like. Thing is, it’s actually an adaptation of another thing that you like, for totally different reasons, by a creator whose work you enjoy on all levels. Now, take this adaptation, and adapt that. Yes, that’s right, don’t go back to the source material, adapt the adaptation. But cut out all of what made it interesting, change the rest into boring derivative material, and shoot it in a flat and uninteresting fashion. VOILA, you now have 2012′s Total Recall.
