Royal Canoe – Today We’re Believers album review
Funky and weird, glitchy and smooth, Royal Canoe’s newest release, the full-length Today We’re Believers, is a strange amalgam of sounds, rhythms, and genres. The band, out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, succeeds on its own terms, using every influence and interest they have to put together this restless and fun collection of songs.

Playing at the Barbary, Allison Weiss, Pentimento, and Candy Hearts rolled through Philadelphia as part of the March Radness tour. Along with local acts Eyes Wide and Placeholder, the bands all put on fantastic performances, showcasing a bunch of young and up-and-coming artists with a bright future ahead of them.
Old Man Markley – Down Side Up album review
Sounding like if Flogging Molly had come from Kentucky instead of Ireland, Old Man Markley’s newest album, Down Side Up, is a fast-paced and fun romp through the world of punk bluegrass. Tight rhythms, sweet harmonies, and a modern sense of lyrical fun are all the hallmarks of a band in control of its destiny, and one which is on the rise on the charts.
Art Brut – Top Of The Pops album review
“We make pop music for people who don’t like people.” This is the repeated refrain on “We Make Pop Music,” the second of the two new tracks on the new Art Brut release, Top Of The Pops. Simultaneously mission statement and call to arms, Eddie Argos’s sing along misanthropy rings just the right note between sarcasm and sincerity. Top Of The Pops is a two-disc “best of” release to celebrate ten years of the weird and oft acclaimed European rock band, and what a fantastic collection to celebrate with.
