A few weeks ago our very own Steel Tip started to talk about Charlie Sheen on The Stabcast…which turned into posting blogs about him here. Now everyone has jumped on the band wagon, and I thought I would do the same…but that wouldn’t be my style. I went a different direction…over the last week I decided to do a followup to my Herpes on eBay auction which went over fairly well. Here is the followup, and no…Charlie Sheen did not win it.
Used Condom on eBay
Problem: Would someone be willing to buy a used condom?
Hypothesis: I think that someone would be willing to buy a used condom.
Deductive Reasoning: The easiest way to test this would be to make an auction listing on eBay. A seven-day auction will be made with pictures and a back-story. If the hypothesis is true, there will be bids placed on this item.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Here is a copy of the back story I created on the auction page:
Used Condom for Sale
My name is Jim and I am 38 years old. On Feb 3, 2011 I had sex for the first time, and it was with a hot girl. I am so happy that it finally happened, and all 3 minutes of it felt great. Unfortunately, she charged more than I thought she would, and now I need money. That is why I am selling this used condom.

I will send this used condom to the winning bidder. All I ask is the the winner pays for shipping. Shipping can be any method that you like. I will accept payment by cash, check, money order and paypal.
Also, this item is special to me, I also ask that you take care of it.

Stats after being listed for 60 hours:
3713 page views, 6 watchers, 1 question and 0 bids.
The page had been removed from eBay between hour 60 and 72.
Message displayed during hour 72 check:
This listing has been removed by eBay or is no longer available. Please make sure that you’ve entered the item number correctly.
If the item was removed by eBay, please consider this transaction canceled. If anybody contacts you to complete the sale, please ignore the request. Completing the sale outside of eBay may be unsafe and will not be covered by eBay purchase protection programs.
Copy of question received at 60 hour check:
how much is shipping for this item
Answer given to above message:
Thank you for your interest in my auction. Shipping will vary depending on what method you choose. I see that you are in California, so I have calculated some rates based on that.
All methods will be via the United States Postal Service:
Express Mail (overnight) – $13.65
Priority Mail (2 day) – $3.85
First Class (3 day) – $1.25
As soon as the auction is over, and I receive payment I will ship the item, so you will get it fast.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Derive a Conclusion: The hypothesis has not been confirmed. There were no bids while the auction was running. However, this test was flawed since the listing was ended early. I feel that because there were 6 people watching the auction, they may have placed bids before the end time.
