On the heels of one of the best releases of 2013, has come back with an acoustic version of Say What You Mean, subtitled Sideways Sessions. The name Sunshine Dreamers has quite an optimistic sound to it. How appropriate that their album Good Morning Afternoon begins with an upbeat sounding major key chord progression.
As the album progresses, we see that this is a band of guys who have listened to albums of their parents’ generation and truly figured out how to make the sounds that they heard. Simple beats are coated with big chord sounds on guitar and organ all with almost trippy sounding vocals with a nice shimmery effect on them. Overall there is nothing too complex, but in songs like “World That Meets the Eye” we see that even letting chords ring out over nice drum grooves can work nicely if done correctly.
